Flying to South Africa; Our Trip to Opposite Side of the Planet

by Aaron Marshall on January 30, 2009

37 hours of travel time. We went from Louisville to Chicago to Washington D.C. to Johannesburg to Cape Town. The flight across the atlantic was 15 hours long. Turns out that we are almost on the exact opposite side of the planet from where we were in the Northwest

Comfortable Flights with a View

The flights were mostly comfortable, we slept quite a bit. We were fortunate on our long flight to get four seats to our selves. We had some pretty good advice from a good friend to bring a wash clothe in a plastic bag and a change of clothes. My favorite part was the camera mounted on the tail of the jet that allowed us to see a view of us flying on the TV screens built into every seat.

Rough Touch Down

When we touched down in Johannesburg the jet hit the runway HARD . It felt like we crashed! I thought that might just be how it is here but we over heard passengers that have taken that flight before say they were shocked.

GOD exceeds your needs. On time and all luggage! I had a 14 hour delay leaving Charlotte, NC on my first trip to S. Africa. I waqs re-routed through NYC rather than Atlanta (weather) and got there a day late, to find that another couple were going to be an additional day late, so I spent the night in Pretoria before heading on a 6 hour bus ride to Swaziland.

I must tell you that I very much appreciet you sharing your journey. I look forward to each new post. We’ll keep you in prayers.
